There have been a number of quarterbacks that have played through the years.I'm sure you will think there are others, or someone else who belongs on this list.Though that may be true, these are MY dandy dozen, and I'm standing by them! .).I will start with #12 and work my way down to #1.You may think you know my top 12 already, but I bet your going to be surprised a little. These are also no needle in the haystack selections. Each and everyone of them belong on the list.I think before I start the list, I'll give you my honorable mentions. These are a hand full of quarterbacks that landed just on the outskirts of my list.First on that list is Kurt Warner, the arena player turned NFL star.Next is the star quarterback of five Championships won in the 1960's, that guy's name is Bart Starr of the Packers. Then there's Warren Moon who passed for nearly 50,000 yards, and was the first African-American quarterback to be elected to the Hall Of Fame. The Chargers had Dan Fouts who started the Air Coryell era that complied passing stats never previously seen before. Then last, but not least by any means is a Bears quarterback named Sid Luckman. He still owns most of the Bears passing records today, and he retired in 1950.Now #12 on my list is Steve Young. The 3 time Super Bowl champ stepped in for a departing J.Montana (who finished his career in K.C.) and the 49er's never skipped a beat. They just kept on winning. My #11 is the golden boy of the 1990's Super Bowl winning Dallas Cowboys.Yep, you guessed this one folks. It is Troy Aikman.I think those Super Bowls were more of a team achievement, but Aikman certainly did his share in the success process.I think my #10 was maybe the most underrated quarterback of his time.I think it was mostly because of his size believe it or not.He was a scrambler who wasn't taken serious as a Quarterback. This gentleman's name was Fran Tarkenton. He made not have been taken serious, but his 47,000 yards in his time landed him 3rd all time.(that has been passed by a few since) His 3 Super Bowl appearance's were mired, by the losing of all 3 but that was not all his fault. My #9 was a guy who pitched for the Steelers in the 1970's.That decade the Steelers won 4 Super Bowls and could have won 5 without a little bad luck. His name is Terry Bradshaw. In the #8 slot is the 2 time Super Bowl winning John Elway of the Denver Broncos. He was the prime example of going out a winner. He won those 2 Super Bowls in the last two years he played. Now #7 was the T.Bradshaw of the 80's.The 49er's won 4 Super Bowls behind a player named Joe Montana.I think most know Joe.The #6 player is the man who owns all the NFL passing records to date.In 20 years Bret Favre accomplished more than he ever thought he could. In more ways than one.Moving onto #5 is the great Johnny Unitas. There are a lot of people think he was the best of all-time.His stats from the 60's could hold there own in today's passing game. His 47 straight games with a touchdown pass still stands today. Now #4 is the best quarterback to never win a Super Bowl, without debate. The 9 time pro bowler's name is Dan Marino. He holds all the Miami passing records that may never be broken. My #3 is no surprise I'm sure. It's 3 Super Bowl winner Tom Brady. The Patriots have been riding the wonder boy's arm for the last ten.I don't blame them a bit.The #2 selection will be my #1 when he retires, because he'll hold all the passing records B.Favre now has, and then some.He is the Colts Super Bowl winning quarterback, Peyton Manning. He gives more to the game than anyone in the history of the game, and it shows. Now my #1 who may be a surprise to some, but not me.He was the Browns big star, before Jim Brown came on the scene. His name, is the legendary Otto Graham. In his first 10 years playing for the Browns they won 7 championships. His winning percentage record for a starting quarterback, still stands today at .810.He was 57-13-1 as a starting quarterback. He also played DB for the Browns. His career winning record while playing for the Browns was an astounding 105-17-4.Yes those were times of long ago, but football success is still measured today as it was then, by winning. There has been no bigger winner in football than Otto Graham!I hope you have enjoyed this interesting and informative article, as much as I had writing it.Cool Jim "The Devil's Advocate".

If you want to make beats online you have to have the proper program for it.Here a few things you should look out for that are absolutely essential to creating beats with a program.1.Simplicity The program you use to your make beats online should be simple to use.If you have an idea for a song or a beat in your head, you should be able to at least get a sketch of the song programmed quickly and easily. An intuitive interface is important for this.If you have to click many boxes and hit "ok" buttons for every change you want to make things will go slowly and tediously and you'll really lose momentum and inspiration. Most beat patterns are programmed in to a timeline where each sound goes into a certain "slot".Putting beats in those slots should be as easy as clicking a box or pushing a button. It should be just as easy to change those beats once you've programmed them.2.Timing control You should be able to adjust the timing. Most programs have a grid with the timeline going left to right and the sounds being triggered listed from top to bottom. This should be customizable. Can you make the pattern longer or shorter? Can you easily adjust the tempo speed to faster or slower?3.Sequence Songs have different parts and you will need the ability to string different patterns to each other in sequence to for a linear structure. This is something you should be able to control through the grid.4.Lots of sounds You must also make sure the program has a large bank of sounds if you want to make beats online.Certain styles of songs call for certain sounds and you will need as many different sounds as possible to use.The program should have many different drum sets with multiple types of sounds for each drum.Twenty different snare sounds is a good start.Ten or twenty different bass kicks is also a good start. You will also want a lot of accompaniment.Horns, pianos, guitars, strings, crash hits, and other sound effects are all things you should have in a decent sized sound bank.5.Versatile Input Control You should be able to control these sounds easily as well.Just like clicking boxes to put a beat in a certain spot, it should be possible to do the same with instrument sounds.Better yet, there should be a way to "play" out notes in an octave with keys like a piano has.If you have an external USB keyboard controller you can just play what you want to program on it, but if you don't have a controller you should just be able to "click" the note on the keys just like on a piano. There should also be pads for "hitting", just like on a physical drum machine.Maybe you'll want to tap out a drum sequence on the pads with your mouse clicks that is just too tedious to program in to slots. That's where the pads come in.6.Volume and Panning Some sounds should be louder nd some should be softer in your patterns. The bass may be distorting or the hi hats may not be too quiet. You'll want to be able to increase the sounds with a mixer of some sort. The same goes for panning left and right for stereo effect.True separation is what makes stereo sound so interesting and you need to be able to change volume and pan parts for better isolation.7.Save it! If you are going to make beats online, you are also going to want to share those beats online. You should be able to export or download your songs and beats into an mp3 or (other audio file) so you can play them with another program. You must be able to save it on your hard drive for later use in case you choose to edit or play it for others on an mp3 player. There should be no loss of sound quality when exporting and downloading either.8.Affordability The program should also be affordable and available. The whole point of needing to make beats online is to bypass the expensive musical and audio equipment that does the same thing as a good program.9.Support Your beat making program should have good support. If this article doesn't make much sense to you then by all means make sure the program you use has lots of instruction, support, and tutorials to get you started and answer your questions.

A good friend passed away recently. We had none each other for many years, we had laughed and shaken each others hands and greeted each other with such pleasure, and a feeling of true welcome. He had always been there, he had two sons the same as me, and about the same ages, in fact we were the same age, he shared his family and his sons and daughters in law, and his grandson with us, yet besides my name and the many 'ganbei's' over the years at the many lavish evening meals in the very best food halls in Boshan. Our talks were through my agent, or through our smiles and gestures.Yes he and his family lived and built up our paperweight factory with us in China. When we first started trading it had to be through my very good friend who lived in Qingdao and worked for the Chinese Trading Company, who sold his items through their warehouse.Qingdao itself always made feel me at ease, due to my good hostess. And the good hotels, the seaside, and the Chinese similarity to my nearest home town Weston-super-mare in Somerset, both are tourist areas, and yes it was the same Qingdao as in the recent Olympic Games in China, but in those days it had great character still, and the streets were very narrow and congested, totally unrecognisable in the Games.Until the Expressway was built the only real communication between Boshan and Qingdao was by train, built in 1904 to link the industrial complex and the port. The route by both rail or by expressway is quite long, but interesting with the many types of agriculture, the people working in the fields, the small villages, and the earth banked greenhouses. The area is very different to the paddy fields of Jiangsu, where our other glass items are made, as this is Corn Country, the cobs stung together and hanging from every available building, and the sides of the expressway make ideal drying surfaces for drying the loose corn on mats, the same sea grass mats as we use to sun ourselves on the beaches. My friend's family is a farming family, like many industries the first small factory was funded by the local farming community. My friend knew of my love for fresh sweet corn, so there was always a constant supply of fresh cobs cooking around the kilns for the workers and myself. He knew I loved grapes, so there was always bowls of fresh grapes from his lands, being a farmer he had been allowed to have his two sons. The craftsmen were equal in men and women, while the packers and loaders for the containers were all women, always laughing and smiling, this was a happy community, each artisan expert in there own handed down art of paperweight and large glass item manufacture. The amazing way in which such artistry is carried out, if totally by hand with the use of pins, needles, the long rods going backward and forward to the kiln until the red glowing article is perfect, then the large cutters to extricate the paperweight, the article then carefully taken to the cooling trays, before being checked for cooling cracks or any imperfections, then the sanding of the base, the polishing, then the packing, all by hand.It is difficult to explain the feeling of seeing the first of the new designs, and new colours and colour variations, after the items have cooled, yet I have done nothing other than have my companion draw up the design and the colour variation, each fountain, coloured droplet.I can still remember the first dolphin paperweight, very small at first, as we had tried to do the insertion so many time and it had either fractured in cooling or came out malformed, and the very first fish paperweight, then there was no stopping us now, crabs, lobsters, turtles, then teddies and dogs, you name it we did it.Then there was the introduction of the gold leaf into the paperweights, gold had historically been used to create the reds and pinks, but we were doing a lot of business with the Arab Emirates at the time, and they wanted gold in their paperweights to be sold in their tourist market, as did our customers in Kuwait and in Malta. All the paperwork and the duty to be paid, as at the time the leaf had to be imported from Japan, and in those days importation was only allowed for items for re-export.When we first started importing the paperweights there were severe quotas in place, with lots of forms and records to be kept, and you literally allocated you quota to your very best customers. At this time there were very few western designs, and before my friend set up, there was only two very old and famous factories, who made the wonderful glass flower paperweights, originally made for the Emperors and later during the 1920's and 1930's to collectors in the fashionable Shanghai playground for the rich, along with the fabulous beads and blue glass items, similar to those excavated from the area, made in the 5th century BC, although glass making is more commonly dated from 700 years ago in Boshan. My friend would arrange for us to 'go up the mountain' to 'the small factory' which makes the traditional moulded glass bottles, jars and plaques, This was one of my favourite trips out passing through the villages with their agricultural daily life, as it must have been in our countryside prior to our Industrial Revolution, the wonderful views, the ancient terraces, there since the earliest civilisations. The Cable Cars taking originally worshipers to the Monastery, now a Chinese Tourists to the World Heritage Site, the remains of the ancient aqueduct, believed to be as old as old as the Roman Aqueducts to feed the terraces from the mountain. The people in the shallow river bed, sorting the smooth pebbles, ready for packing in the bags and glass plastic tubs to be sold in Garden Centres and Interiors Shops all over the world, and the large stones to be hand carted for building. We are climbing more and more and then we are there, the moulds are made by hand and the new plaques are cast and costed, it is high up here so even in the sun it is cold, and the factory is frozen in during the winter, so production times are limited. We are given some biscuits, as this all they have for Westerners, then its back down the mountain and back in time to freshen up and then to another famous eating house for another meal and the Qindao Beer and the Baijiu in the little toasting glasses, which is the famous very strong white liquor. The whole family are there along with relations who do everything from being drivers and arranging the shipping, and a good time is had by all, and I have to 'ganbei' with every person except the children, so I am glad to be taxied back to my hotel along with o big box of bananas and grapes. We set out next morning to the 'Glass Animal Paperweight Factory', which is in the countryside in a different direction from the day before, through the ancient corn villages, corn hanging everywhere as we pass through all the little villages, in the middle of nowhere, we stop at one of the villages, I can never remember the right village, there are Mules and belt driven tractors pulling carts over laden with corn cobs and huge piles of the stalks for animal fodder. We pull up outside some big wooden doors, the director explains that all the workers are out gathering the crops, but has his cook and a couple of his oldest and most experienced makers are there for us, this happens this time of year every time we visit. The factory also makes our glass fruits, grapes and vegetables as well, the very first time we visited I was very wary of the meal offered, but the chef, no white hat here, cooks up a wonderful amount of vegetarian cooked dishes for me and my companions, we are joined by the head of the village cooperative of farmers who financed the factory and the Qingdao Beer is flowing for everybody except my friends son who has given over the day to drive us, as they are old friends. In this factory the workers are all farmers, but everything is made by hand, again the level of skill is fantastic, the fusing of colours in the carrots, the grapes, and the detail in the pineapples and mini fruits. We return back to my friends factory, as it is our last night we leave tomorrow, so we check all the costings and organise the order of production, the packing, and order the silk lined display boxes. We have our last night meal in the most expensive and 'Latest Night Club' we are greeted by beautiful hostesses in the Traditional Dress, and taken to our table, and the cabaret stats with a group of western dressed young ladies singing live to backing tracks of popular western songs, followed by a band of musicians playing a mixture of Western and Chinese Instruments, the result was very good, and so another good visit is over, my host has looked after us so well again, how I shall miss him.
Why Am I Here
I sat in church a couple of months ago, and a young man, during his address, said these astounding words, 'why am I here,' is the most frequently asked question in Google Search Engine, and at the time, I just thought, 'how sad'.Then I remembered that when I was young, that was true of me, even though I had a church upbringing. Why are so many scientists adamant that God doesn't exist, that life began with a 'big bang' but every time they speak of the 'universe' they are unwittingly speaking of God.Uni means one, and universe means one verse, 'in the beginning God' from the first verse in the Bible.I have always felt the youngsters of today to be terribly disadvantaged just because they are taught that, 'we descend from apes' and the 'big bang theory' was the start of it all.Who can they turn to in time of trouble? At my friends grandsons' school his class was asked,"how many can say the Lord's Prayer? Her grandson was the only one, and the reason for that, he was born in Zimbabwe and prayer was the only thing people had at times.Eighteen months ago my son thought he was dying in hospital, and although he doesn't believe in God, when he thought he was dying, he tried to say the Lord's prayer.Sadly he couldn't remember the Lords Prayer, but had enough strength to download it from the Internet via his iPhone. However he was covered in prayer, and made a good recovery.A few days after I heard that people are having to ask Google 'why are they here?' the thought came to me to set up a website and write a blog or two telling or attempting to answer that question. It is a most profound question after all.If we don't know why we are here, if we don't know that God exists, if we don't know that there is a life after death, than we haven't got a rudder to steer our lifeboat with, we are just aimlessly drifting, and when the storms of life come, and they do come, whether you are a believer of not, when they come, to whom can you turn?We are born with free will. You never have to teach a young child to do wrong, you have to help them to know the difference between right and wrong. When we live lives that have integrity, and are right because we aren't breaking the law, there is a certain amount of happiness in that, just because we have no fear that the police are coming to arrest us.There is always a certain satisfaction in living right, but at the same time there is an emptiness within that only the Holy Spirit can fill.We are body, soul and spirit, but until we actively invite Jesus into our heart, our spirit isn't active. That is another story. At the moment all that is important is that we start to ask our selves the question, does God exist, why are we here, what is it all about, what is the purpose of it all.Nothing matters though if we don't first believe that God exists. If God doesn't exist then there is no plan or purpose for our lives, we can please ourselves, within the limits of the law, do our own thing, and hope for the best.Of course that means that there is no after life, when one dies that is the end of it all. That is an awful thought, and I am so glad that in the depths of my sorrows and troubles that God drew me and Jesus wooed me and I gave my heart to Him and committed my life completely to following Him, and He made all the crooked paths in my life straight, and even though it wasn't immediate, even though it took years to put right, I am so thankful today that He reached out to me and I accepted Him, and now I have a plan and purpose for my life, and that is simply to have a greater relationship with Him.If God doesn't exist why do so many people say they have no shadow of doubt that He does exist. Why is there such a difference between people who do believe in God, and have committed their lives to Him and Jesus, and people who are living for themselves and doing life, 'their way.' Could it be that people just don't want to be obedient, and want to do their 'own thing'.After all one of the most popular songs sung at a secular funeral is 'I did it my way', by Frank Sinatra. There is also a huge difference between religion and having a relationship with God.Religion simply means people are trying to be good enough so they will get to heaven, and it is an impossible task, no-one can be good enough.Having a relationship with God and Jesus is so completely different. It is by Grace that we are saved, and it is the Holy Spirit who does the work within us, and helps us to change. But we must be willing to put Him first and be obedient to His Commandments. This isn't about religion, this is about having a relationship with God.Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words. and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.John 14 v 23.To me that is what it is all about, Jesus in me and I in Him.This isn't about religion, this is about having a relationship with God,.

This contemporary Bay Area family consists of two branches. The more normal and apparently contented Palo Alto branch consists of Liz, Brody, and their two teenage children, Joe and Lauren. Across the Bay in Berkeley lives Sarabeth, the second part of this extended family. Sarabeth is Liz' virtual sister and life-long best friend. In midlife, Sarabeth is still alone and lonely--a woman with a long history of sabotaging her long-term happiness though repeated dead-end relationships with married men. Liz and Sarabeth have been inseparable since their teens, when Sarabeth's mother committed suicide and she came to live in Liz' family while her father pursued his career and a new life on the East Coast. Their sisterly bond is strong but unhealthy. It is built on a shaky foundation of one-way... The idea of the story intrigued me but the two women were uninteresting and even a little annoying. But more than the women or the plot, what bothered me the most was the poor writing. The author writes paragraphs of excessive detail that don't do anything at all for the story, don't tell me about a character, don't move the story forward, nothing. More annoying than that are sentences like this: "Esther was an elderly woman Sarabeth had sort of adopted." Huh? Who is saying this? This is like some kind of authorial intrusion to explain things to the reader, because she couldn't do it within dialogue. Also the entire first paragraph of chapter three which explains the company Brody works for - I kept wanting to shout, "Show, don't tell!" - one of the very first lessons in any creative writing class.Perhaps this book was rushed into print. Perhaps, as someone else suggested, she needed more help from... "SONGS" starts well with a flashback to 1976 a time when Sarabeth and Liz, the two lead female characters, are best friends and high school students. Sarabeth is actually living with Liz's family in their Palo Alto home as her life was disrupted when her mother committed suicide and her father moved back east. We flash forward thirty years to present day Northern California and find Liz is now a typical suburban housewife with a successful husband in the high tech industry and a teenage son and daughter. Sarabeth is still single in her mid to late forties doing some free lance creative things like "staging" houses for realtors, making lampshades and we presume often living off the inheritance from her deceased parents. Sarabeth is also mourning being dumped by her latest lover who happened to be married with kids and trying to come to terms with some realities... Read more |
